Nairobi National Park.
Nairobi National Park offers a truly unique safari experience. It’s the only national park in the world located within a capital city, where wide open grass plains, acacia-dotted landscapes, and abundant wildlife unfold against Nairobi’s modern skyline.
The experience;
- Game Drive Adventure – Enjoy an exciting drive through the park in search of lions, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, leopards, cheetahs, and other mammal species.
- Black & White Rhinos – Nairobi National Park is one of the best places in Kenya to spot the endangered black and white rhino in their natural habitat.
- Birdwatching – With over 400 bird species recorded, the park is a paradise for bird lovers, especially between November and April when migratory species arrive.
- Scenic Backdrop – Capture stunning photos of wildlife set against the contrasting backdrop of Nairobi’s skyline.
- Ivory Burning Site Monument – Visit the historic site where Kenya publicly burned stockpiles of ivory as a powerful statement against poaching.
David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
A visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is a heart-warming highlight of Nairobi. This world-renowned sanctuary is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned elephants, with the ultimate goal of returning them to the wild.
The experience;
- Baby Elephant Feeding – Watch as the keepers bottle-feed the young elephants and explain their individual rescue stories.
- Playtime in the Mud – See the orphans roll, splash, and play together in the mud, a delightful and unforgettable sight.
- Conservation Insight – Learn about the Trust’s important work in anti-poaching, habitat preservation, and elephant reintegration programs.
- Meet Other Orphans – Occasionally, rescued rhinos and other animals can also be seen during the visit.
Giraffe Centre
The Giraffe Centre is one of Nairobi’s most popular and unique attractions, offering an unforgettable opportunity to get up close and personal with the endangered Rothschild giraffe.
The experience;
- Feed the Giraffes- Purchase a handful of special pellets, which are provided by the Centre at a fee, and offer them to the giraffes. They use their long, dexterous, and soft tongues to take the food from your hand.
- The Giraffe Kiss- If you hold a pellet between your lips, a curious giraffe might lean in and take it with its tongue.
- Learn and Educate- Take time to read the informative displays about giraffe conservation, the different species of giraffes, and the threats they face.
- Nature Walk- Explore the short, well-maintained nature trail through the adjacent Gogo River Sanctuary, a small forested area. You might spot warthogs, dik-diks, and numerous bird species.
- Visit the Warthogs- It’s common to see warthogs roaming the grounds, often kneeling to graze on the grass.
