What to Carry.

What to carry.

A pair of trekking boots.

A pair of trekking boots will be ideal to carry along with you. This will help with your comfort while climbing and also avoid sliding and blisters because of the long journey.

Socks with wool.

The wool socks will help with the temperature to warm your body and also prevent blisters and have your body dry.

Down jacket.

Ideal to keep your body warm body warm because of the high temperature of the mountain. Make sure it is big enough to cover your whole body.

Gloves.

Gloves will be used to cover your hands which should be lightweight to keep your arms warm.

Waterproof clothes.

At some point in the rain forest, you might experience rain while trekking, so it is advised without taking any risks to have a raincoat with you, where it the last, which should be waterproof.

Sunglasses.

Used to protect your eyes from the rain experiences in the rain forest.

Head beanie

Trekking trousers.

Many people think of wearing heavy jeans but that is not a good practice. We usually advise using trekking trousers. We usually advise having at least 2 pairs of trousers and maybe having long underwear

Mt Kenya National Park

Mount Kenya National Park is the only park beneath Mount Kenya. It was established in 1949 to protect the wildlife and the mountain itself. Mount Kenya National Park is home to wildlife, including Buffalos, white and black Columbus, monkeys, elephants, antelope, and very nice hotels. Mount Kenya is the second-highest mountain in Africa, at 5199m above sea level. 

Climate

The climate at Mount Kenya will depend on the height of you climbing the mountain above sea level.

Trekking Itinerary.

Day 1: Nairobi – Nanyuki.

You will be picked up from the airport or your hotel and driven to Nanyuki from midday. You will drive for about 4 hours before getting to Nanyuki, passing through Nanyuki, an equator stopover. The rest of the day will be spent preparing for the trek the next day and also seeing wildlife around Mount Kenya, Mount Kenya National Park.

Dinner and overnight will be in a hotel.

Day 2: Nanyuki – Met Station.

The second day will be the trekking day. After having your breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to the gates for registration and start the trek. This day’s trek will be for about 4 to 5 hours trek Met station passing through the Naro Moru valleys.

Meals and overnight will be served at the met station.

Day 3: Met Station – Mackinder’s camps.

On the third day of trekking will climb to Mackinder’s camps. After having your shower and taking a shower, (Hot water will be provided) start climbing to Mackinders camps. Lunch will be served en route while dinner and overnight will be at Mackinder’s camps.

Day 4: Mackinder’s camp – Lenana.

4th day will be the last day of climbing getting to pick Lenana which is the summit of Mount Kenya. Wake up very early in the morning at around 3:00 am, and start trekking to the summit of Mount Kenya, point Lenana arriving at sunrise. Breakfast will be taken at Met station or en route. Stay at the pick for about 3 to 4 hours taking pictures before starting to descend to Met station. Descending will be much easier compared with ascending. Lunch will be served en route and dinner and overnight will be served at Met station.

Day 5: Met stations – Gates – Nairobi.

5th Day will be the last day of descending. After having your breakfast at Met station, descend to the gates, drive to the hotel where you will have lunch if time allows, have a walk around Mount Kenya, and drive back to Nairobi. You will be transferred to the airport or dropped in your hotel.
